Ford’s new patent turns autonomous car into movie theater

In the ideal future, autonomous cars will do everything for the driver-  which can account for hours of boredom in traffic. Considering this possibility, automaker Ford filed a patent that seems too good to be true.

Confirmed the USPTO, the patent refers to an “autonomous vehicle entertainment system “. It would consist of at least two screens and projectors capable of playing videos in a space that would be occupied by the window or the dashboard, for example. It is a kind of a driving movie theater.

If you turn off the autonomic system, the entertainment system recognizes that it is time for the driver to pay attention to the road and retracts the screens to give the driver complete visibility of the road and surroundings. If a passenger wants to continue watching something, a secondary display can keep the kids entertained. These miniature monitors are embedded in the rearview mirror (which does not seem like the best idea) or the dashboard (not as bad, but still weird).

As with every concept idea, Ford can only register the patent to keep the intellectual property for itself. In addition, it will still take a while until autonomous cars in mass become reality. Still, it is great to imagine a future where we will practically have a movie theater drive us to work everyday.
