Can’t Cook? Maybe A Smart Pan Could Help!

Having trouble cooking and counting calories? The Smartypan teaches the recipe step by step and even monitors the amount of calories in the dish. The new invention is now seeking crowd funding on Indiegogo. The pan has weight, humidity and temperature sensors and the data obtained from them is displayed to the cook through a smartphone app. This also allows the user to see more than a thousand recipes and share recipes that they created.

When choosing a recipe, the user is instructed by the app on how to prepare it – getting information about ingredients, cooking time, serving size and calories contained in the dish.

The SmartyPan is Teflon coated and its electronic circuits are waterproof. The smart pan connects to your phone via Bluetooth, withstands temperatures up to 648ºC and apps are available for Android, iOS and Windows 8. Charging it only takes an hour and the battery will last for up to a month.

The engineer, Rahul Baxi, is the creative mind behind this project. In a promotional video he says he is tired of eating out every day because he doesn’t know how to cook and can not get along with the recipe apps currently available.

If the pot could somehow talk to the recipe app and tell it about the current temperature, the humidity and the weight of ingredients, the app can give us a more valuable feedback and help us cook better,” says Baxi in the video – explaining what motivated him to create the SmartyPan.

Baxi’s attempt at crowd funding isn’t looking too good. I’m not really sure if I’m the only one who just can’t stand ordering out anymore, or if he got a little carried away with the high prices, but it sure would be easier to learn how to cook with this pan.
